Mike joined us in 2023 having latterly been senior partner of Mackie and Dewar, where he had been since 1974.
During his lengthy legal career, Mike has dealt exclusively with criminal matters since the 1980s. His work has ranged from Justice of the Peace Court matters to instructing and sitting with Counsel in many High Court cases.
For many years, Mike was Senior Tutor for the Diploma in Criminal Court Practice at Aberdeen University. Mike was involved in the creation of Aberdeen Bar Association in 1985 and has served as its President on three occasions.
For six years in the 1990s, Mike was a temporary Sheriff, presiding in Sheriff Courts throughout Scotland.
Outside of work, Mike's time is spent with his family and his dogs. However, his true passion is sport. He is a season ticket holder and shareholder at Pittodrie, and Honorary President of Aberdeenshire Rugby Club, having been a playing member and latterly a committee member there since the 1970s. Mike served on the SRU Council from 2012 to 2018 and was appointed as a non-executive Director of the SRU during that time. In March 2024, he also accepted the position of Secretary of Aberdeenshire Cricket Club.
