A native of Aberdeen, Derek was educated at Robert Gordon's College and Aberdeen University. He joined Alexander George & Co as a trainee solicitor in 1985.
After qualifying, Derek remained with the firm, becoming the resident solicitor at the Banff office when it opened in 1995. Following the merger with Grant Smith Law Practice, he has continued to work from Banff. Derek handles mainly conveyancing but also deals with a variety of other non-contentious matters.
