Wallace to Praise City Centre Development
Deputy First Minister Jim Wallace is to visit Aberdeen
tomorrow to open one of Scott Sutherland's finest city
centre buildings.
Former Justice Minister, Wallace, was invited by the
Grant Smith Law Practice to open their new offices at
252 Union Street, whilst he was still in his pre-election
role. He is delighted to highlight one of the pearls
of 20th century architecture, brought back into vibrant
economic use by Aberdeen property developers BFB Cromdale.
The building had lain empty above the ground floor
for the best part of a decade until rescued from disuse
and fully upgraded to modern office standards.
City solicitors, Grant Smith Law Practice are celebrating
their tenth anniversary this month with the move to
Union Street.
Said GSLP Senior Partner, Donald Macandrew, "We're
proud to be associated with a development of this quality,
and expect to be here for many years to come
Note to News Editors:-
250-252 Union Street was opened in 1933 to a design
of T. Scott Sutherland and has been called "one
of the best Art Deco buildings in Aberdeen". It
has been refurbished by a joint venture between Aberdeen
lawyers, the Grant Smith Law Practice, who will be amongst
the first tenants, and Aberdeen developers, Cromdale
Ltd.
Two former town houses, both previously owned by prominent
Aberdeen medics, were demolished in 1932 to make way
for this landmark building, and it has since been owned
by the Scottish Amicable Building Society (now the Nationwide).
Note to Photo Editors:-
The Right Hon. Jim Wallace, QC. MSP. Deputy First Minister
will arrive at the building at 4.15pm on Friday 27th
June to be introduced to staff and the design and construction
team. There will be an opportunity for photographs both
inside and outside the building.
